Managing BBL expectations, and when revisions happen
Why some patients return for a touch-up, and how to lower the odds.
Even a well-done BBL sometimes needs a second pass, and understanding why protects patients from both disappointment and over-promising surgeons.
The most common reason for a revision is fat reabsorption beyond what was anticipated, the result softens more than the patient hoped. Asymmetry, or a desire for more projection after seeing the initial result settle, are others. A revision usually involves a smaller, second fat transfer once the first has fully matured, typically no sooner than six months out.
The odds drop with good candidate selection, meticulous technique, and disciplined aftercare, particularly weight stability, since the transferred fat behaves like the rest of your fat and changes with weight. Dermatologic and surgical practices that emphasize skin quality and realistic planning reflect the broader principle that durable cosmetic results depend on healthy tissue and honest expectation-setting. A surgeon who discusses the possibility of a touch-up before surgery is being candid, not pessimistic.
